On the Kirb, a Houston sports bar with healthy food, opening in Katy

A sports bar that only serves healthy, organic food will soon open in Katy.

On the Kirb, which already has two other locations in the Houston area, will open at 25230 Farm to Market 1093 in mid-July. The bar’s name is a nod to the restaurant’s first location in Upper Kirby.

Owner Joe Arbeely says the restaurants specialize in serving fresh local produce, organic meats and free-range poultry, providing an alternative to the mass-produced frozen foods that are traditionally offered in sports bars.

As their name suggests, they are always located on street corners.

“We originally wanted this concept to create a sports bar in a fun environment that offers really healthy options for everyone,” Arbeely said. “Our locations in Kirby and Midtown have done very well, so we’ve seen that this is a concept that people really want.”

Kirb’s menu includes brunch favorites, burgers, wraps, pizzas and other specialty dishes, all made with hormone-free ingredients.

Appetizers start at $18, while On the Kirb’s signature cocktails start at $9. The restaurant also offers organic beer and wines.

“We’re basically a sports bar which is a healthier choice,” he said. “We focus on sports showing UFC matches and fights, and we never charge for coverage.”

The interior of the restaurant has walls covered with 300-inch televisions. For outdoor dining, On the Kirb offers a 2,500 square foot patio.

As a resident of Fulshear, Arbeely said he looked forward to opening a restaurant near his home to serve his community.

“Katy and Fulshear are only growing at an alarming rate, and with that growth people want to see more options,” he said. “What we’re offering is unlike anything in the area, and I think people from Katy are going to really enjoy coming here.”
