Malls flood with last-minute shoppers on Sunday – CBS Los Angeles

GLENDALE (CBSA) – With Christmas less than a week away, last-minute shoppers packed into Los Angeles malls and malls on Sunday.

The mad rush to get gifts for loved ones was on as thousands of Angelenos thronged the Glendale Galleria in search of the perfect gift for that special someone with little time to spare.

One customer, Adriana Gamboa, was surprised at how crowded the mall was, noting that it looked like pre-pandemic times. “It’s super crowded,” she said. “I did not expect that.” Gamboa also went shopping in San Diego earlier this month, where she encountered much the same – throngs of people doing their best Saint Nick impressions, stocking up on gifts and goodies.

Sunny Singh, another Glendale Galleria buyer, shared just one of the many stresses customers felt: “It was stressful. Lots of rush in there. It was difficult – lots of people!

A year into the social distancing instituted by many merchants, it was a little unsettling for some to see so many stores packed wall to wall, especially with the winter wave of COVID-19 looming and the Omicron variant crawling with more of 40 cases in Los Angeles County on Sunday.

“With the cases increasing – everywhere – I think it’s a bit scary to see so many people crammed together,” Singh continued.

Despite this, crowds still gathered in droves to do the last available weekend Christmas shopping before Christmas Day on Saturday.

Most individuals, despite new COVID-19 restrictions and a statewide mask mandate, are just happy to be able to spend time with families again for the holidays.

When asked what excites her the most about this holiday, Gamboa said it’s about the simple things taken for granted in the past, “Just being together. Last year we didn’t couldn’t spend Christmas together, so this Christmas we’re going to see my parents.

Shopping experts have recommended buying gifts online that don’t need to be shipped, to avoid the crowds and shipping delays plaguing Americans across the country this holiday season.
