Every year, we look forward to hearing the findings of Etsy annual guide to house trends. This year, the company reported an increase in the search for travertine items and minimalist decors inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, which correlates with the growing focus on turning the house into a sanctuary. soothing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “After a year of working, learning and relaxing at home, many buyers are eager to find new ways to beautify their spaces, so it’s no surprise that this year’s interior design trends reflect our evolved relationship with our homes. last year the focus was on building multifunctional rooms, this year it’s all about synergy and getting fashion back to life, ”said Dayna Isom Johnson , trends expert at Etsy.
However, Etsy shoppers also had fun with their decor: the search for checkered prints, wavy and curvy decors, and mushroom designs has also increased. Coming up, we’re sharing the six top trends that have thrilled Etsy buyers over the past year.
What is old is new again. Travertine, an age-old material that was especially popular in the 1980s, is considered the new neutral by home experts. Etsy buyers caused a 211% increase in searches for travertine items in general and a 361% increase in travertine tables more specifically. On Etsy, you’ll find everything from table lamps and coasters to desk accessories made from this material (or designed to look like it).
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a trend in minimalist interior design, but this year’s Trend Report shows an increase in the popularity of Japandi, a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics that combines modern minimalism and warm rustic styles. Incorporate this style into your home with Etsy’s assortment of Japandi wooden trays, shelves, candle holders and blankets.
From soap dishes to mirrors to candles, Etsy has witnessed a staggering increase in the search for wavy decors. “A playful yet sophisticated addition to home decor, wavy, curvy patterns pop up everywhere from candles to mirrors to furniture,” Johnson said.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, there has never been a greater need to relax and rejuvenate at home. From eucalyptus scented showers to candles and incense, finding products to create a calming space has never been more important. Etsy reports that they saw a 212% increase in searches for shower carts and a 120% increase in searches for waffle towels, both of which can help create an ultra-comfortable home. Another easy way to instantly create a serene setting in your bathroom is to add some greenery, like real and faux olive trees, two things Etsy was in high demand for.
Bold patterns, like a checkerboard print, are experiencing a resurgence, and experts believe there may be a correlation between this trend and the growing popularity of game boards and puzzles during the pandemic. “With so many color combinations to choose from, plaid prints can be easily incorporated into home decor in a variety of ways, like rugs, floor cushions, and even ceramics,” Johnson said. On Etsy, the searches for printed plaid items for the home and living space jumped 889%, and here you will find coasters, rugs and trays that mimic this trend.
As more people focus on their personal health and well-being during the pandemic, it makes sense that mushrooms, which have long been touted for their health benefits, also influence home decor. Etsy saw a 371% increase in searches for mushroom lamps and a 902% increase in searches for mushroom pillows and printed phone cases.
